There are two types of visas for FULL TIME students.
1) Student Visa
2) Long-term Visa (for dependent)

* Note that Long-term Visa will be given on annual basis. Students whose the dependents are between the age of 7-17 will get a maximum of 12 month Long-term Visa. This visa is not renewable. The visa is to give ample time for you to find appropriate school for your children. Once the children being accepted to a school, the school will convert the Long-term Visa to Student Pass (School). We do advice students not to travel with dependents until you obtain your Student Visa.

1) Student Visa (Mobility)
2) Tourist Visa

* Students who participating for Short-term or Summer Programme with the duration of less than 90 days do not require Student Visa (Mobility). They can enter Malaysia using Tourist Visa.
FULL TIME STUDENTS
MOBILITY STUDENTS
Students who has received offer letter from USM can start apply for Visa Approval Letter (VAL) through EMGS.
Once approved, Malaysian Immigration Department will send the approved VAL to EMGS.
Once applied, EMGS will check all attached documents and then will be submitted to Malaysian Immigration department. You can track the VAL process.
IMCC will submit your passport to Penang State Immigration Department to obtain a Multiple Entry Student Visa or Multiple Entry Student Visa (Mobility) sticker. Once approved, students will be contacted.
Once you enter Malaysia, Immigration Officer at the port of entry (airport) will give you a special pass to be referred to Penang Immigration Department. Please bring your passport to USM Visa Unit at IMCC at once especially for students who received 14 days visa at the port of entry
EMGS will send the approve VAL to USM
USM will email the approved VAL to students.
Students can start making arrangement to visit the nearest Malaysian Embassy in the home country for Single Entry Visa (SEV)

Once SEV is granted, you can start to book your flight to enter Malaysia. In most cases your SEV will expired within 90 days.
Note that visa processing normally takes up to 1 1/2 months. Make sure that you apply at least 2 months before your planned date to arrived in Malaysia.
